It’s Firebird Heaven!
If you are a firebird lover then this event is an absolute must! This show is as good as it can get! The Trans Am Nationals are held in Fairborn Ohio at the Holiday Inn. It’s right off of the main highway so its very easy to find. The show has been held for the past 35 years. Last years event saw over 300 cars!
The first time that you go, you will soon be overwhelmed by all of the beautiful cars when you get off of the high way. The first time that I went I saw a handful of firebirds when we pulled off of the highway. I saw 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation firebirds cruising up and down the main stretch of road. It was amazing seeing some rare cars that I’ve only seen in magazines just driving around in the flesh.
When we pulled into the parking lot of the Holiday Inn, I knew that I was in Firebird Heaven! There were hundreds of Firebirds. All different generations, special editions, and in every color under the sun. There were survivor cars, restored cars, cars restored to original condition, lightly modified street cars, and even full out track cars!
Last year at the 2019 Trans Am Nationals we were lucky to have had Matt Adams and his crew attend. Does the Adams name sound familiar? It may sound familiar because you probably heard of his Dad, Herb Adams. Herb Adams was a important part of Trans Am history. Herb helped develop the Trans Am and he also designed a famous SCCA racer named the “Silverbird.” Adam and his close group of friends helped restore the Silverbird back to its former glory cosmetically.
The original Pontiac race engine is sadly gone by this point however the current owner John Hildebrand is having a Chevy engine built up for this special car. I know that it may sound like Pontiac blasphemy but it is for good reason. This old racecar is actually coming back out of retirement! I’m not certain for when the car will hit the track again due to the current corona virus event. Hopefully we will be able to see this beauty ripping on the track again soon!
